Mississippi Hippy came into our rescue program on January 14, 2015. Mississippi Hippy came from the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office along with 11 other horses as an abandonment case. Sadly, help came too late for 2 other horses. We lost a 6 month old foal 3 days after she arrived and we found 1 dead on the property. Mississippi Hippy is a Beautiful, Bay, Quarter Horse, Gelding. Mississippi Hippy is estimated to be 15 years of age. Mississippi Hippy is body score of a 4. He is infested with internal/external parasites, has rain rot and is mildly anemic. Mississippi Hippy is covered in ticks. Mississippi Hippy is a sweet boy, but very scared. Mississippi Hippy, along with the 11 other horses, haven't experienced much hands on attention. Most are not halter broke or broke to lead, but learning. It is going to take some time and patience and this beautiful herd will learn to accept love and attention. It clear that no human has been there for them in the past, and they don't understand that we are here to help. We will update as Mississippi Hippy improves. Update April 2015 Mississippi Hippy is now seeking his forever, loving home. He is a super sweet boy and with daily attention, he becomes more relaxed and eager to receive attention. He is extremely smart and with the right amount of time and attention will make someone an excellent horse. He wants to please, and has such a kind eye. I am sure at one point in his life, he was worked with, then just thrown out to pasture with limited to no contact. I would not say that Mississippi Hippy is broke to ride. He was willing and accepting of being tacked up and mounted. He just doesn't know what to do from there. Shawn did ride him for a bit. He was very slow to move out. He never got upset, bucked, bolted or reared up. He was relaxed and wanted to please, but wasn't sure how. If someone has the time, patience and gentle hands to work with him daily, he will do amazing things. Mississippi Hippy has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming and hoof maintenance.
